50th AIC Annual Meeting will take place as planned in Los Angeles!

Join us in Los Angeles for the milestone 50th AIC Annual Meeting to be held at the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles, CA, May 13-18, 2022. Planning for the in-person meeting is well underway and there is currently no consideration of any format other than an in-person meeting (with a virtual component).

In-person meetings of around 1,000 attendees are being held safely at the Westin Bonaventure today. We have taken the important safety step of requiring that all attendees be vaccinated in order to attend. Our host hotel, where all sessions will take place, also asks to see vaccination cards at check-in. The hotel only allows those who can show proof of vaccination into its restaurants or bars, and will place a COVID-19 pass on your hotel key so you can enjoy their restaurants or bars without having to carry around your vaccination card.

The next few months will be busy, so here are some upcoming important dates:

  • Week of February 7 – Pre- and Post-Session Tour options released. Your colleagues in Los Angeles have put together some amazing tours of their institutions for you. We have also partnered with awarding-winning local institutions to offer walking, hiking, and biking tours of Los Angeles. Include a pre- or post-conference tour to make the most of your LA experience.
  • February 28 – Early registration rate ends. Register by February 28 and save up to $40 off the regular registration rate.
  • Early March – Clear Health Pass system launches. Upload your vaccination card.
  • April 29 – Room block closes. However, if you can reserve your hotel room by early March it will help AIC determine if we need to increase or decrease the room block (the number of rooms we reserved at our low room rate).

For those unable to attend in-person, we are offering a live-streamed and recorded virtual component of roughly 35% percent of the talks. The live-stream schedule will be available by mid-February.

I was in Los Angeles at the Westin Bonaventure in late January for a pre-planning visit and can attest to the hotel’s commitment to hosting safe meetings. I also had the good fortune to meet with the many local members who are volunteering their time to plan offsite events for us. We are all looking forward to seeing each other after two years of isolation.

The importance of connecting was made clear to me my last night at the Westin Bonaventure when I noticed attendees for a meeting of around 1,000 people checking into the hotel. Masked attendees were in socially distanced lines stretching through the lobby, happily chatting with and waving to people they had not seen for a while.  In a few short months, that will be us.

Register today and we will see you in Los Angeles in May!
