Preservation Engineering Technical Committee Announces 2025 Student Design-Build Competition Phase I Deadline: March 10, 2025
The Preservation Engineering Technical Committee (PETC) Student Design-Build Competition is a hands on challenge to students with an interest in historic buildings and structures. Following other student engineering design competitions, teams (composed of any students enrolled at the time of competition call) work to analyze an existing structure and subsequently design a structure within the specified guidelines. This year the focus is on masonry arches. The designs are evaluated and top teams are brought to the APT Annual Conference for on-site building and testing of their structures, followed by a final competition phase of unique preservation type questions and solutions.

The APT AAR fellow is expected to conduct research while participating at the AAR program in Rome. This will allow the APT AAR fellow to interact with Rome Prize and other Affiliated Fellows who are researching various topics, supporting collegiality and inspiration in each other’s work. Program Spotlight: Equity Scholars Program
APT and our Inclusion Advocacy Committee are committed to creating programs that support our mission to encourage equity and cultural diversity within APT and to support the growth and development of diversity within the historic preservation field.
Impressed by the positive impact of grants in 2022 and 2023 from the Getty Foundation for Equity Scholarships to APT's annual conference, Berggren Architects, P. C. stepped forward with an idea to help replace that funding in partnership with APT. Patti the Preservationist is a call to action aimed to preserve our built environment. Inspired by Rosie the Riveter, the iconic figure contributed to the success of the allies. Patti is featured on a selection of merchandise available for purchase online. Proceeds go to support Equity Scholarships which include complementary APT membership, travel to, and attendance at, our annual for eligible students and emerging professionals in support of their advancement in our field.
