Mary Jablonksi, Jablonski Building Conservation, Inc.

Mary Jablonski is a Principal and Senior Architectural Conservator at Jablonski Building Conservation, Inc. Her work varies from conservation of architectural elements and sculpture to field surveys, conditions assessments, field testing, laboratory analysis and forensic research. This work has included a significant number of architectural finishes research projects. Mary has a Masters of Science Columbia University Historic Preservation Program with an emphasis in Architectural Conservation and is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia University in the Historic Preservation Program where she teaches Architectural Finishes. She is a Fellow of APT and AIC.

Karla Salahshour, Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc.

Karla Salahshour specializes in the evaluation and characterization of historic and modern building materials. Her work in WJE’s Cleveland materials laboratory focuses on the petrographic examination of construction materials. Karla’s laboratory work has included investigating the causes of distress in construction materials, characterization of cementitious materials, and the evaluation of durability concerns in hardened concrete. Her laboratory work is often combined with her field evaluations of materials-related distress.

Karla’s work in historic and modern materials has included petrographic analysis of concrete and terrazzo at the Perry Victory Monument at Put-in Bay, Ohio; John J. Earley’s mosaic concrete on Edison Monument Tower in Menlo Park, New Jersey; Hoover Dam in Henderson, Nevada; and the Washington National Cathedral in Washington D.C. Karla is a member of the Association for Preservation Technology International (APT), American
Concrete Institute (ACI), the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), and the Society for Concrete Petrographers (SCP). She is also a certified IRCI Concrete Slab Moisture Testing Technician. She is a registered professional engineer in Arizona, Maryland, New Mexico, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Karla has given presentations and hands-on seminars on petrography and laboratory evaluations for APT Workshops and numerous organizations throughout her career.

 

Julie Sloan, Julie L. Sloan, LLC 

Julie L. Sloan has been a stained-glass consultant since 1984, specializing in conservation studies, conservation management, historical research, and appraisals. Her conservation projects include Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, New York; H. H. Richardson’s Trinity Church in Boston; Harvard University’s Memorial Hall; Trinity Church, Wall Street; The Riverside Church in New York; and Princeton University’s Chapel. She is certified by the American Appraisers Association and current in USPAP training. She was an adjunct professor of historic preservation at Columbia University from 1985 to 2013; has lectured at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI; Williams College; and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; and has given seminars and lectures around the country. Her BA in art history is from New York University (1980) and her MS in historic preservation is from Columbia University (1982). The author of Conservation of Stained Glass in America (Art in Architecture Press, 1995), she has written many articles on stained-glass history and conservation. Her books include Light Screens: The Complete Leaded-Glass Windows of Frank Lloyd Wright (Rizzoli International, 2000); Frederic Crowninshield: A Renaissance Man in the Gilded Age (University of Massachusetts Press, 2010) with Gertrude de G. Wilmers, the artist’s great-granddaughter; and The Berkshire Glass Works (The History Press, 2011) with William Patriquin. She also contributed a chapter to A New and Native Beauty: The Art and Craft of Greene & Greene (Merrell, 2008), and the introduction to Frank Lloyd Wright: Art Glass of the Martin House (edited by Eric Jackson-Forsberg, 2009). She is working on a comprehensive history of American stained glass. She lives in Lake Placid, NY.
